It’s been a long, painfully slow and frustrating couple of years. But finally, after a mountain of paperwork, hours and hours of research and meetings, interviews, flights and worry, we have received that most fabled of documents – an American “Green Card”.
Following our 6 months in New Hampshire for the winter of 2004 – 2005, it became apparent to me that far from satisfying my desire for running dogs on snow , it had, in fact, only fanned the flames even more. Going back to training for UK dryland sprint racing in the mud of a Scottish autumn was the final straw. Since then, everything has been geared towards making that dream a reality.
In the summer of this year, we will move ourselves and our 18 dogs to Willow, Alaska.
It’s a huge change and one that we are looking forward with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. I’m sure our dogs are in for a major surprise when training starts in the Matanuska Valley rather than the crowded trails of Deer Park, Elgin.
