The Birthday Month

With us having quite a few dogs, there isn’t a month that passes, that doesn’t mark a birthday for one or more of our guys.

November, however, seems to be THE month for parties.

On 2 Nov, Wink celebrated her 15th birthday. The oldest of our dogs, she has been mentioned in posts several times recently, and continues to potter about as befits the senior lady of the place.

Turov also has his birthday that day and the big guy hit double digits, which makes him older than I am willing to accept.

On 4 Nov, the house/kennel/surrounding land guard dog, Ciobair, turned 9. She has a few ( quite a few) white hairs now, and although as energetic and alert as ever, she does like a nap now and has even started using dog beds, rather than just throwing herself to the floor like she used to do.

Sharing her day is Xaros, who is now 11. He had, what was probably, his best season in harness, last winter, and is still very willing to go but has been retired from the main running group – against his wishes.

November 5 is Lightfoot’s 12 birthday and she continues to defy the years and looks and behaves like a much younger dog.

November 9 sees the 6th birthday of Cuchi’s pups, Dawson, Braeburn, Brooks and Tess. The march of time is never more evident than in the discovery that those tiny little pups we watched being born, just the other day, are actually six years old.

November 17 is an easy one to remember. Not only do Yuri and his sister Kat turn 11, but it is also my wife’s birthday and she’ll be 21, or maybe 22 this year.

November 20 is the party day for sisters, Cali and Cyra, as they reach the giddy heights of 6.

A week later, young Davaar will be 3 and I will have to stop thinking of him as the baby of the kennel.

The day after, on the 28th, there will be coffee and cake as siblings, Kazek, Kalekh and Kalinka celebrate becoming 9.  It will be a poignant day, due to Kaz’s tumour, and the likelihood that he won’t see another, but that could be true for all of us. And on that cheery note, we hope there will be plenty of cake left, because…..

On November 30, we manage to squeeze in a birthday for 3 more dogs. Nina, Nuchok and Niko also turn 9.

And that is the busy birthday month of November.

  1. That is an impressive list! How many dogs you have, altogether?
