Cuchi of Seppala is our newest dog. She, and Dushka, whom she arrived with, were born in the Yukon at Seppala Kennels in early 2005. Their journey here was long and complicated, but their arrival in February 2010 was the culmination of years of hope and dreaming.

Cuchi is a Markovo Seppala, a heart stealer, a love giver, a willing worker and a serene presence. She is so relaxed that she makes everyone around her relax too – she seems to drift through our loose pack of dogs who can be bouncing and screaming, and it’s like the parting of the Red Sea.

Cuchi was bred as part of the very recently defunct Seppala Siberian Sled Dog Project, it’s founder, J Jeffrey Bragg announced its closure last week. Cuchi came to us from one of the Project’s satellite kennels in Maine following their decision to rehome their dogs. We feel fortunate that we were able to get Cuchi and Dushka and to be able to give them a home for life.

In the short time she has been here, she has completely stolen my heart, she is the most openly affectionate Seppala I have ever come across and no amount of petting is too much for her. Of course, being a wonderful character is only part of being a sled dog and from the few short runs I got to experience with Cuchi following her arrival this past winter, I have high hopes that she will be the strong worker her previous owner told us she was.
